LOL, I grew up in the Soviet Union, I really think that it why this whole commie bullsh*t is getting my blood boiling. This is bringing back all those repressed childhood memories of that bureaucratic nightmare that I've lived in USSR. Every time I get a glimmer of hope that unlike Russia, China is actually going about their transformation in the right way, they do something stupid like this and prove me wrong.

Preaching to the choir,.. Yeah for every smart move they make, every foot forward toward the light of the 21st century, they seem to take a perverse delight in going two backwards to the times of Mao and the cultural revolution.. were that rational people like us were able to rule the world,.. instead of politicians.. but no alas,.. I'm oft reminded in these times of Franklin's quote (if correct please feel fee to tell me if not)

" A people should never live in fear of it's Government, A government should live in fear of it's people

Methink the meat puppeteers in The hive mind of Beijing actually do live in fear of their people,. and just brutally repress them and breach their own constitution * remembers Hu Jia*

why these 33?

The 33 countries whose nationals have been banned from applying for china visas in HK:

Afghanistan / Algeria / Bangladesh / Congo / Egypt /
Gambia / Ghana / Guinea / India / Indonesia / Iran /
Iraq / Kaiakhstan / Kirghiziani / Libya / Malaysia /
Mali / Mauritania / Monaco / Nepal / Nigeria /
Pakistan / Philippines / Saudi Arabia / Sierra Leone /
South Africa / Sri Lanka / Sudan / Syrian / Tajikistan /Tunisia / Turkey / Uzbekistan

I'm confused about the linkage?

muslim?
drugs?
illegal immigrants?
overstayed visas?
organized crime?

Or is it just general security logistics/border control? The HK-China Mainland border is an really porous border that thousands of individual traders pass through daily. Making travel harder for this group could be one of the quickest ways to cut down on non-Olympic related volume?

Do we have clarity on whether this applies to residents (but not permanent residents) of those countries? If so it must be a huge blow to those who take their helpers with them to carry the shopping in Shenzhen!
