So wait, you mean they will weed out the "terrorists" by just limiting them to a double entry visa vs. a multi-entry???? I would think if I was a terrorist a single entry would suffice

Their thinking is just plain.....stupid. There are better ways to monitor who comes and goes from your country....it's called the secret police...God knows they have enough manpower to assign a tail to every suspicious Tibet loving Dalai Lama hugging hippie rioter/"terrorist". Hell, you can put a "free snack station" at the border and just weed out anyone who shows severe signs of "the munchies."

I sincerely hope that this move will cause some major financial pain to China's economy and sever critical business relationships. This will teach China a valuable lesson in how to avoid the herd mentality when it comes to managing your foreign affairs.

i was referring more to the non-issuance of visas to non hk residents in hk and the border rather than the multiple visas

You only have to be in the Wachai office to " understand " the thinking. Certain nationalities can be hard work and maybe they think this is one way to cut down the hassles.

Eh? I think not... they are on the same list as India and all the other countries where you have to go home to get a visa.

[quote=doctorcatron;208920I have had a multi visa for 4 years and now they want me to buy double entry at the same cost. I don't care if I ever go back to China and I am writing my Congressman to suggest and pressure that they stop ALL USA visas to the Chinese until after they come to their senses.[/QUOTE]

Let me see if I have this straight.
You are a US Passport holder?
You live in HK or USA?
You have a recently expired multi-entry visa?
They would not renew your multi-entry.
Did you try to get this multi-entry in the US or HK?
Up until now, it seemed as if the US was immune to this nonsense.

Just out of curiosity, why do you think that China should do this? The US Consulate in Hong Kong will only issue US Visas to HK residents. And the US doesn't issue visas on arrival. China is just bringing itself into line with world practice.

The ones I know have always never had a problem getting an "L" I would have contributed this possibly bc they hold HKID cards, some are also living/residents/employed in Singapore and KL but in January a friend's cousin was visiting in HK from Lahore walked in China Resources in WanChai In January 2008 and walked out with a China "L" visa issued for 4-years multiple entry with 90 days stay limit.

However... it has been said 'no rhyme or reason' to the thinking of the visa office in WanChai

And not all HK residents / passport holders can get a visa to the USA!

WRONG -
Quote from UK Home Office Border Agency - Visa website - you are a UK citizen so this is relevant to YOU -
"With a visit visa you can usually enter and leave the UK any number of times while the visa is still valid. You cannot stay for longer than six months on each visit. Visit visas can be valid for six months, one year, two years, five years or 10 years. You can apply for a visa valid for any of these periods. The Entry Clearance Officer may decide to make your visa valid for a shorter time than you have asked for, for example if you are not a regular traveller or have never visited the UK before. "

Oh to have a reciprocal agreement that meant more than just jacking up the prices.

As far as the other stuff you said. As far as I am aware China has a trading surplus with the WHOLE world so these people need to visit their country and a lot. The argument might be valid if the system NEVER had what has been withdrawn for no good reason.

World practice my arse. Those of us that actually have to travel to do business should be arguing this and not those sat looking out of a window.
