Life is what you make it, so you can have a better life anywhere you like if you make it so. But comparing places on Earth, especially such places almost on opposite sides of the Earth is comparing Apples and Oranges. The US is pretty big. Hong Kong is pretty tiny. Keep up your argument with your friend and expect to argue for a while. Keep us posted here.

Mercer Human Resource Consulting Group Survey's Yearly Ranking of the world's top cities, now you can compare the World cities "based on detailed assessments and evaluations of 39 key quality of life determinants". It's pretty interesting. I didn't sign-up to login to find out where Hong kong ranks among the US' cities.
