Lease grace period

Hey,

My lease is coming up and I'm my landlord to raise the rent beyond what I can afford (I have a good deal).

I know that Hong Kong used to have rules in place that gave a tenant the right to extend the lease for 1 year beyond the lease period - a "grace period" that was shortened to 6 months shortly after SARS.

Does anybody know if this rule is still in effect? Do I have the right to stay a further 6 months in my flat after the lease is up if we don't agree on an extension?

Thanks!
CM

The rules changed ... so unless your lease was signed before July 2004 this page should help you. GovHK: Renting a Domestic Property

If not call them and ask them I found them to be most helpful with my situation.
