newbie-hk is on a distinguished road
budget 10K, serviced studio, HK island, possible or not?

Hi all, I'm relocating with my wife but would start 1-2 months on my own in HK, starting next month. I've been looking around for a temporary place to stay with the idea being that I will search for a more permanent place to stay once I have acclimated myself to the area.

Any good place on HK place that will fit my bill? I will be working near Central so preferably stay nearby.

10K is relatively tight for a HK island service apartment....offhand I cannot even think of a possible place.

There are some alternatives in TST and Jordan that are near the MTR and only a few stops away from Central. Relatively, the same travel time by MTR if you were to stay on HK island in Wan Chai or Causeway Bay.

Long-stay packages at Bishop Lei are close in price. A little bit more expensive than you are looking for at quoted rate HKD430 per day, but there should be some room for negotiation. However, more like a (small!) hotel room than a studio (i.e., no real kitchen, etc.).

Prices have increased quite a bit since last spring ... each day I learn of new increase in something ... just keep that in mind while shopping/looking around.

Oh yes forgot about Bishop Lei - beachball gives great advice negotiate on the price as they tend to give some discounts for longer stays. A few years back I had friends who stayed there for about 45 days and what was a good rate then .... something like HK1100 per week (I think). The living was tight no doubt as they regularly commented on this but they were hardly there so they didn't mind all that much.

BTW notice a new Sharma going up in TST you maybe able to capitalize on some introduction/soft opening rates.
