This interesting article reminded me of the fate of the Hong Kong Gurkhas in 1997.

It is indeed quite outrageous. I recall a year or so ago that there even had to be mass protests by the military establishment for a Victoria Cross holding Gurkha to be allowed into the UK for medical treatment. I really don't understand how politicians responsible for decisions like this can sleep at night.
