Good Telly from the Wienstien Bros

A new series of programs is being made for the BBC called The No1 Ladies Detective Agency. If you tired of those same old CSI formula stuff this is like a breath of fresh air. Has some great moments in it being remarkably well written. Worth a watch from EZTV and the episode is film length. Don't expect car chases and shootouts !!

Wiki review is
"The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is a series of nine novels (as of 2008) by
Rhodesian-born author Alexander McCall Smith. The eponymous agency is located
in modern-day Gaborone, capital of Botswana. Its founder is a fictional
Botswana woman, Mma Precious Ramotswe, who features as the stories'
protagonist and main detective.

The episodic novels are as much about the adventures and foibles of different
characters as they are about solving mysteries. They must be read in order of
writing as, although each book is complete in itself, each book follows on
from the previous book.

A TV series of 13 episodes is to be produced by the BBC to be shown on BBC One
in the UK and on HBO in the US. An hour and a half long pilot for the series
was broadcast on BBC One on 23 March 2008 (Easter Sunday) with filming of the
remaining episodes to commence during the summer."

Boris - good you brought it up. It was on my list of things to post today.

This one is going to turn into a TV classic for sure. Only the BBC could have pulled it of. Imagine if this was handled by Fox.

The Fox version---
The set moves to a beach outside Cape Town. The detectives are all drop-dead gorgeous and there is one from every ethnic group in South Africa. Plot lines involve terrorists, homicidial maniacs and a lot of male-female interaction. Each episode involves one or more characters romping through wine country and/or the bush before everything is related back to the beach and the final scene is always the girl's getting together for sun-downers on Table Mountain. Sort of like Charlie's Angels--South Africa.

Shri - Great you like it. I take you approval as a shiny badge to wear.

Favorite Characters - The gay nail guy. The SS stormtrooper with a heart, secretary.

Great moments of African humour .
Start up capital is based on a herd of cows.
Getting two typewriters because he can't find one with a the keys and they have to use both to write a document with all the letters.
Customer calls the detective a fat slut for proving her husband is playing around. The defaced shop board at the program end was classic.
Quote " you can find any human bones in the market in Capetown "
Quote " don't run away or I will have the police hunt you down with their radar and dogs "

The other episodes are probably 30 minute items - Its a shame . I loved the long run format.
