| | | % of Salary given when on Sick Leave Curious to know if wages to paid while one is on sick leave still stands at the "sum equivalent to four fifths of the normal wages"
How long does one need to be employed by the company to be given wages on sick leave?
I cannot seem to locate the HK gov website that has the labor law information.

| | | sick leave is paid as if you were at work once outside of probation. to the maximum of 30 days per annum.
maternity leave is 80% of your salary with 10 weeks off above and beyong your regular annual leave.

| | Yes, legally it's 80%, although both companies I have worked for here (multinationals) pay at 100% and don't require doctor's certificates for one or two day absences.
See A Concise Guide to the Employment Ordinance and specifically Chapter 5.

feel free to correct | My subsequent post does so... That may be what your employer grants - it isn't the legal minimum.

| | | What it says is that you must be paid 80% of your salary for all doctor-certified sick days up to a maximum of 4 days per month. It doesn't say that you can just not turn up for those days if you don't feel like it! | |

| | | how do sick days work here?
if you wake up, and have bad headache or something and can't go to work, you call in. do you need to present a doctor's note when you return to work? what if you were sick but not enough to go to doctor?

| | | That's a matter of company policy. The legal minimum is that if you produce a sick note then the company must pay you 80%. If you don't then they don't have to. (Subject to all the other stuff about how many days per month and so on - see the document linked above.)
In my experience multinationals pay at 100% and don't demand a sick note for the odd day or two, but you need to check your own employer's policy. | | Tools | Search | | | | | Rate This Thread | | | All times are GMT +8. The time now is 01:32 PM.
