| If the company is in your name in the EU, then can you send your wife as an Employee and you can be her dependant? Or are you guys both classified as owners?

| The Hong Kong term for what I believe you have is "Sole Proprietorship" - they are common here as well. Have you considered Singapore rather than Bangkok? They are certainly more friendly towards mainland Chinese immigrants. |

| That's actually what we are trying to do at the moment, I'm waiting for Sam's approval on the issue, as my wife is not quite as qualified as I am. Hope it will work out like this though, as she is indeed the one who will oversee the HK office. Daughter and myself can apply for dependant visa as a later date also if that helps as we can easily enter HK for long periods Looking into other options though in case it doesn't work for Missus. |

| PDLM, as much as I appreciate Singapore (no joke here) it doesn't offer the same deregulated business atmosphere nor the same market for us as HK, plus my wife is a native cantonese speaker and has most of her relatives in Shenzhen. I thought it was a Sole Proprietorship as well, but my full name is plastered accross the business registration, and it will remain there even if I change the comercial name. Sam from visapro sure didn't like that part. |

| Sorry PDLM, I though you had written "Singapore rather than HK" BKK doesn't have the free market regulations HK has and it's not a chinese speaking country, nor it is a very nice place to live IME after 4 years full time and many more years staying on and off. Yet it's still the center of the universe for the goods we're dealing in, whereas not much is happening in Singapore. I would much rather be based in HK and set up someone in BKK but it hasn't been an easy task so far. Last edited by LuisHK; 20-03-2008 at 08:13 AM. |

| It doesn't matter what type your business is in France. " Trading As " " Partnership " " Sole proprietor " etc etc. It has no influence upon what you need to do here. You would open a regular Limited Liability " Ltd " company here. In this company you would be a shareholder and also a director. You may choose to have your wife one or the other or both. With a Ltd company you own the company by shares % BUT in legal terms you are employed by the company. The company is and entity itself and you are conjoined to it by the shareholding. In this case - the " company " applies for the visa and you -- being a company officer -- sign the papers, even if they are about your self. If you can not understand this thing simply then I wonder how much real experience you have in business. I cannot for the life of my understand why you are going on about things in another country that have no relevance here. |

Boris ( I think) I do understand what you say, it just doesn't seem such foolproof way to get a working visa as Visapro is not ready to apply for it if I can't hide owning the company personnally. The firm which opened my first HK company seems more willing and charges less but is definitely not bothered by money back guarantee conditions. We will try anyway, and I will also contact the HKTDC. |

| If you don't think its the right thing to do , then nothing I can say may convince you. However, believe when I say , that is IS the right way to go. I did it as have other before and after me. HKTDC are brilliant at what they do and very helpful in every respect. I finer bunch of people I have never found anywhere in the world. | Guys, let the specialists and Luis handle this.. they're all presumably intelligent and capable of making their own decisions and accepting responsibility for those decisions.
