You'll be given an opportunity to present your defence.

Immigration matters are much more cut and dried - people who are stopped on the street without documentation can be whisked off to a detention centre without further ado.

Where exactly are you staying, BTW?
Why does it matter where I am staying?

well staying in a hotel when you're supposed to be 'broke' thus unable to afford to pay off your debt isn't really going to endear the authorities.

so what is the proper way to settle things with inland revenue when one leaves hk? and what if they plan to come back and begin working later that same year? or the following year?

Thanks to everyone who pitched in with their 2 cents, it really made a difference. Most of all thank you to the angel who came to my rescue -- someone who has saved my sorry ass more than once -- I am forever grateful.

Well the curious bugger in me wants to know how much you owed them and whether it was your mother in law that paid them off so now she's got you in a vice like grip!

seriously though, Hope you've learnt your lesson and don't do it again
