Question want to know about job & salary for java developer

Hello, I am a newbie in Hong Kong and I cannot speak Cantonese.
I am finding jobs in Hong Kong. I applied some jobs from the jobs site but nobody seems interest in my resume. If you have any idea to find jobs in Hong Kong please let me know. Also I would like to know how is the salary range for java developer/ senior java developer. (I check some salary survey report but they do not have any specific survey for java developers).
My first degree is with Computer Science. I have 3-4 years software development experience with java.
Thank you so much for paying attention to my thread.

A couple of things which we need to know first so we can get a better understanding of your situation is.

1. Do you need sponsorship?
2. Which online sites are you using?

Certain online sites are a waste of time as you will only ever get spammed for roles as a 'sales advisor/management trainee' for the numerous insurance companies out here.

Use the big multinational agencies and also you will need to Network/network/network in this town.

Applying direct to companies is usually a waste of time as HR usually ignore your application or take about 2 months to get back to you.

As regards to salary do some online research with companies such as Hudson/Robert Walters/Ambition/Robert Half etc etc and that will get you an idea.

You might need to do what I had to do when getting a job out here is to take a pretty big pay drop just to get my foot in the door and to prove myself and network from within, As they say its easier to find a job when you're actually in one.

Good luck and I know exactly how it feels as it took me a long long time to find something here in HK.

thanks for your reply.
1. I do not need visa sponsor. I am authorized to work in Hong Kong with my dependent visa.
2. I am using jobsdb and some direct company websites.
3. as for my network, my husband and this website is my only network. my husband just move back to HK too. so it is quite tough for me to get network.
4. if any of you (and your company) interest to hire java developer who is working hard and a quick learner please PM me and I will send you my resume.
thank you.

I wouldn't even waste my time contacting the companies directly to be honest, the HR people are pretty slow at responding thats even if they do respond to you in the first place, You need to try and get to the decision makers direct, Hence the need to network at events such as the geoexpat happy hours and also events like Oriented.

Good reputable agents and networks are the best ways to get a job here, concentrate on those first.

get a business card done with your contact details and also a brief outline of what you do and hand it to people you meet at social events etc.

Most people get theres done at print100.com

Can's say anything about salary since I am not even in HK yet. But here are tips to network: join the local professional association in your field and ask people handling membership to give you some advice or recommend a mentor, visit local online discussion boards in your field and start taking questions there; subscribe locally published journals and see what they are talking about; study the websites of the companies that are hiring people with skills like you and find out how they phrase the requirements; volunteer so at least one place will know you. They always worked for me in the past. Good luck.

Hi twitwi,
I work as a recruiter for Aquent here in HK, I had no opportunity for you at the time being but I would like to have a look at your resume if it's possible. I've been in your position last year and I know how hard is here without network believe me.
Just send me an email (denis[alt]aquent.com)
Cheers
Denis
