| I am an advanced English learner who is interested to improve my command of English (both written and spoken). I am looking for an American with experience in teaching English. Please contact me and we could have an initial chat. Please contact me at gjsun129@yahoo.com for an initial chat. ** Alternatively, if you are an American who's interested to receive Cantonese / Mandarin lessons in exchange of English lessons, plese feel free to contact me. Okay I have been looking for a tutor for some time now...hope to hear from *YOU* soon. Thanks! GJS |

| Indeed - Americans do Intermediate English at best. Let us know when you are ready for the real thing. |

| Most Americans are proficient in both American and Queens English. In addition, there are dialect differences with both. I am an American and find the competition between the two to be both silly and exasperating! I try not to put anyone in a box based on their nationality. I hope these thoughts are not prevalent in HK and I have not seen many Americans here. I enjoy living here and changing predisposed notions about our culture. Cloud9 |

| Cloud9cruiser - you must be of German ancestry - no sense of humour / humor! Why spell with a z ( zed not zee ) when it should be an s. Its colour NOT color etc etc etc. All good ways to get a rise out of our colonial cousins. |

(stolen from Chris Patten) An American tourist in Cambridge goes up to an elderly distinguished gentlemen. Tourist: Could you please tell me where King's College is at? British Gentlemen: I might consider telling you, if you only understood that you can never finish a sentence with a preposition. Tourist: I'm so sorry. Could you tell me where King's college is at, also? |

| What's not to like about American English? Anyway, this is not the point here. I am looking to hire an English tutor who speaks and writes American English. If you are interested, please contact me direct. Thanks! |

e.g Fanny, In U.S it means bum but elsewhere its something a lot ruder. And also its Po Tay Tow not Po Ta Toe and nuances like that. So you're looking for an American English Tutor not an English Tutor then? You might as well just watch the u.s version of the office or the apprentice if you want to learn american business english for example! And this is tongue in cheek before people start giving me negatives! Last edited by jimbo; 12-03-2008 at 10:48 PM. Reason: addendum |
