President Bush vetoed a law preventing the CIA using Waterboarding

"President Bush has vetoed a law preventing the CIA using interrogation techniques condemned by many as torture, because it “would take away one of the most valuable tools in the War on Terror”.

In his weekly radio address the President defended practices such as waterboarding, claiming that they alone had prevented another 9/11. "

Your thoughts..?

I think Dubya should be waterboarded on live TV just so we can see how it works.

PerryCo is on a distinguished road
Bush is not an American nor a Christian. That is why I left the USA and took up residence in Hong Kong.

I know I'm going to get slammed for this... BUT, what happened to the whole "all is fair in love and war" thing of the past years?

I find the whole genteel war thing a bit hypocritical.

You can nuke a country, you can carpet bomb them, you can rape their virgins, but god forbid if you throw some water on their citizens before you kill them?

Don't forget folks .. Bush is on a Crusade ( CNN.com - Bush vows to rid the world of 'evil-doers' - September 16, 2001 ).

Quote:
Bush made the same point during his remarks at the White House. "This crusade, this war on terrorism is gonna take awhile. And the American people must be patient. I'm gonna be patient," Bush said.
The terminology might have changed, because it is offensive to the Jewish and Saudi / Pakistani "allies", but in the mind of the Christian Right in the United States - this is just that.

Quote:
"By their own account the crusaders slaughtered 70,000 Muslims - though they may have exaggerated the number - when they conquered Jerusalem in 1099, as well as a lot of Orthodox Christians and any Jews they could lay their hands on. It is not a word that would encourage the Pakistanis, Egyptians and Saudis to join the coalition."
Ill-chosen word fuels claims of intent to wage war on Islam - Telegraph

But seriously, this kind of thing is really bad for human rights in other countries as well. Why should other governments be pressured to resepct human rights, if the US engages in torture and carpet bombing...

I suspect most Americans would want their government to represent themselves as being better than stooping to the level of their enemies- especially when the results of waterboarding are dubious to say the least.
Imaginethe uproar had a downed American pilot had been subk=jected to similar torture.

Maybe not much at the time, but it may come back to haunt people if he gets elected as President...

Or an American reporter being beheaded in Pakistan? The scenario of the "enemy" using torture and violence is far more real than some water nonsense.

So, if the results of water boarding are dubious .... throw in some chemicals and high voltage nut toasters.

Talking about politically correct BS ...

Its ok for black guys to play white chicks ( White Chicks (2004) ) but its not ok for a white guy to play a black guy ( Race row as actor Robert Downey Jr 'blacks up' for new film | the Daily Mail )

KIA,

Just curious how you can be sure that the person you are torturing is harbouring information whose value justifies the means?
