Do you need a working permit to work PT?

After getting a working visa sponsored by one company. do you need to get another working visa to work part time at a different company?
is this allowed?

Technically .. no you cannot work for someone else part time.

Your visa is tied to your current employment contract.

you can, but they have to tell you it ok first. Here's a recent email i got from them while trying to get some details about the process.

---
Thank you for your e-mail enquiry.

Please note that permission given to a person to land in Hong Kong for
employment shall be subject to the condition of stay that he shall only
take such employment as approved by the Director of Immigration.

Should a person wishes to change his employment in Hong Kong ,
transfer to a new company or take up part-time job even on a voluntary basis),
he/she will have to submit the application for approval.
---

from what i've heard, its not much of a problem. They just want all the details before they tell you anything.

Mike - that is indeed a change from what is being said here / experience from a few years ago.

Sounds like it then technically possible to get a part time job. Wonder if they'll need the employer's permission?

More than likely as it also depends on the terms of employment for the existing sponsor, I signed one today with my new prospective employer and it states ' You are not allowed to engage in any alternative employment without the express consent of the company'

TCent, I'd check your contract if I was you as it could be grounds for dismissal if they find out.

Yes, when a friend of mine did it, within the last year, they wanted:
letter of permission from sponsoring company
letter of employment from part-time company
