| | | Living in DB when comute to Causeway Bay Hi,
I'm considering to move to DB but I'm doubtful if it makes sense because of the high comute time.
Actually I like to life outside of Hong Kong because if you are the whole day in the city I think its quite relaxing to be outside of the busy city.
Usually I'm not scared about comute daily but if its more than 45 minutes it could be very annoying.
Beside I'm interested in the monthly costs of travelling to Hong Kong Island.
And if I have a look on the map the airport is not very far away. How about the rotaring, landing and starting planes. Is it loud if you are outside of the flat?
There are many questions but perhaps the knowledge of the quantity can help me.
Thank you very much in advance.

| | | Ferry ride from DB pier to central is under 30mins.
A taxi ride will get you to CWB in another 10 mins. Bus #2, 11 & 25 too but take longer waiting for all the busstops & etcs.
Assume monthly commute cost ~HK$1k.
I hardly ever hear any plane noise at all.
Swing by over weekend & talk to residents / estate agents to check the place out. |

| | | Hi, thank you for the informations. That sounds quite good.
Perhaps there is a little misunderstanding but I don't want to move from another part of Hong Kong to DB but directly from Germany. So it could be a little streaneous to swing by over weekend.
My colleagues are checking this place because after my arrival I will just stay 2 days in Hong Kong and then I will directly make a 3 week trip to Shanghai. So I have to decide from Germany.
So If somebody would like to share any further informations with me I would like it.
Thanks in advance |

| | | lots of germans in db.
cannot hear the plans. i find sai kung noisier as it's on the flight path, but db isn't (usually).
commute time: 5 minutes to ferry, 25 minutes on ferry (i wouldn't count causeway bay as 10 minutes in a taxi if you are going peak times), i would walk 5-10 minutes to MTR and then MTR is about 5 minutes.
I'm guessing that hundreds of people in db commute this everyday without much problem. the ferry ride is very relaxing. you can eat your breakfast, read your paper, have a sleep, chat to friends, answer emails (has wireless connection).
cost is roughly $1200 for 50 trips. you may use more than that in a month if you are going to central for work and play.
great for kids, if you have them. |

| | | The DB ferry is definitely the most civilised form of public transport in Hong Kong (unless you catch the kids on the way back from school). As carang says, peaceful reading, eating or snoozing time.
I used to commute to Causeway Bay by ferry and MTR, on average it took me 50 minutes. Depends on where in DB you live, and where in CB your office is located.
Oh, yes, and lots of Germans here! |

| | | Hi, i used to live in Happy Valley/ Causeway Bay and be able to walk to work. It was very 'convenient' - but I never got away from the traffic and congestion and general 'busyness' of HK. A year ago I moved to DB and now catch the ferry and then a bus or train or taxi to the office. There are lots of options. It takes me 1 hour door to door - but I love it and would never move back to HK island. As others have mentioned you can catch up on email, read a book - the ferry ride is quite relaxing. And it is great to come home after a crazy day at work to the peace and tranquility of DB. I can't think of anywhere in HK i would rather live. Good luck with your move. |

| | | Hi,
I am going to work at DB and the first month I would like live in DB to see how it is. If not suitable, I might find another place in Central.
My question is, does anyone know any agents or places, where I can find a studio or apartment for short time lease. I need to find a place to stay before going to HK. I am on a budget, so can't be too expensive. Must be around 6-7.000 HKD
