I agree with PDLM on this. My wife didn't have a HKID card. All she had to do was sign a form that the civil celebrant provided saying she was not previously married.

I'm about to register myself, but my bride to be is currently living in Canada. According to the website, it says one of the parties may register for both, which is what I intend to do. Has anyone else done this and/or encountered any problems?

i saw a guy there who was register for both but they were HKID holder as he have both of their HKID, i guess u would need at least ur bride passport copy? (not sure )

Yes - you need a copy of the Bride's passport, but when I gave notice I just emailed a scan of it to the Civil Celebrant (my wife-to-be was out of town). The Civil Celebrant needed sight of the original passport at the marriage itself, but that's all.

You simply DO NOT need any certificates from your home country. Hullexile and I have both done this reasonably recently with non-HK resident brides and we know that all you need is for the bride to sign a statement that she is not married and produce her passport.

Done through a civil celebrant I did it all by email (scans of documents) and one trip to his office to drop off a cheque to make the down payment for his services and sign some forms which he had prepared - I didn't even meet the guy until 5 minutes before we got married.

Thanks for the feedback guys. However PDLM, I believe the "single" certificates people were asking about, are certificates of divorce, so prove that we have legally disolved the previous marriage and are indeed single.

That's not how I read this post from chocolatekisses. I believe from what she wrote that she has never been married. In that case you just need to sign a statement affirming that fact. No certificates necessary.

I don't know how it works for divorcees since it was the first time for both my wife and me.

I just needed to produce the decree absolute at the wedding - and similarly I just gave him a copy of her passport beforehand and she produced the original on the day.
