Why do HK'ers hate Craigslist?

Why don't people here use Craigslist? In the US I used it for everything from buying cars to finding roommates. It doesn't have the ads that GeoExpat has and it's so much easier to get information.

I'm trying to find certain things (like American designer jeans and an old acoustic guitar) but because information is redundant in so many GeoX forums, I waste tons of time paging through all of them.

Please help me understand why anyone would prefer this; it may help me to miss the states a little less.

Thats because Geoexpat is an online community with an active social scene rather than a 'dating and
classifieds' which craigslist predominantly is.

Yes I know Geoexpat has both but its very different and a lot more 'friendly and approachable' than craigslist.

The only reason why I look at craigslist is to laugh at the desperate dating ads,

I guess because Geoexpat serves mostly expats, and is very specific to their needs (which goes beyond buy/sell and dating).
I see craiglist as kind of a bazaar, which can only work if the local community would participate. But for that it must be in Chinese.

Yup indeed and also the chinese locals don't tend to do 'secondhand' as its all about face and status. They don't want anybody elses cast offs.

CL is English-only. So the potentially interested population is tiny, and already occupied by sites like Geoexpat.

There are Chinese sites for second hand gear. They are just very hard to access if you don't read Chinese.

Why is everyone giving the OP negatives for asking the question? I think it's a reasonable one.

Craig's List

I am a fan of Graig's list too. I needed to buy things here but had a heck of a time because people in HK don't do second hand stuff. But I found AdPost.com and bought a car. You might want to try that site.
I am also looking for friends to hang out with from Canada or US, anyone interested? epcling@hotmail.com
