| | | PCCW NOW TV scam Hey a warning to you all because I'm very angry about this--- NOW TV have a scam in which someone knocks on your door in the evening (when people are most likely to be home) and tells you that others in the building have complained about service or that they are offering better value packages. They come in to "look" at the box then tell you you could have better value with a different package and you get scammed into signing up for a whole new package which is usually more expensive than the one you had before.
It's a dumb and obvious thing but DON'T even consider talking to or letting any NOW TV guys into your place unless you've asked them to come over!!
It happened to several people I know, including me!
Doing a google search on this, I noticed that I-cable was investigated by OFTA, the HK Telecoms Authority a couple of years for doing something similar after people complained.
I just want to bring this to light and I intend to complain to OFTA. If you've been scammed, you should too.

| | | I actually spoke to someone pretty high up at PCCW Customer Service about this. They said they know about the situation, but because it works for them, they're going to continue doing it until they're stopped.
The last time some guy came by, I told him he didn't need to say anymore and told him I didn't want to speak to him. He was cool about it. I guess they're just doing their job, crappy as it is. I joke around with my siblings about going to the door with a baseball bat the next time they show up, but I've decided that probably wouldn't be the nicest thing to do, funny as it might be.

| | | Our building management does not let them in anymore.
By the way, as long as you agreed and signed for the new package - its not that much of a scam. The only lie would be "someone else in this building had a problem".
Why do sane people think they don't have the right to say "NO". Please leave my house now.

| | | The wonders of commission based selling.
The best friend of my other half came to dinner a while ago, whilst working for PCCW, and I had to constantly stop her from doing sales pitches all night. I think they use brainwashing techniques in their sales training !

| | | Try complaining (politely) to your building management and they may start to screen out the NOW sales. The sales guys used to turn up in my building, but when the security guards figured out what was going on, they would search around for them and throw them out. Now they are simply refused entry. | |

| | | In our version, i was told that they were upgrading, and that after the next night (a saturday, good luck getting ahold of anyone worthwhile in Cust. Serv. on sat morning) all cable/internet would be gone if we did not renew for 18 months. | |

| | | These guys have come to our house two or three times to "check" on something. I always figured they were really checking to make sure we hadn't figured a way to view extra channels.
They use the sales pitch in the end, we decline it and they are gone in 10 minutes, no problem.

They have a complete record centrally of exactly which channels you watched (or at least were streaming to your box) and when.
