Great advice. For a partner that is 21, I couldn't think of anything better.

She could also teach English is she got a TEFL/TESOL. Depends if she would be in to that type of thing and if she could handle it. This could get her a visa. (Depending on the company she applies with and her skills of selling her skills)

Let me know if you want more information about this route. I can PM you much more info and the steps needed to be taken. PM me.

YES INDEED!!! A great advice. At least now we're armed with a few options! How is the cost of junior college education there?

Have you looked at student visa?

At age 21, limited work experience and very little to do when you're working it sounds like maybe studying could be an option?

she should check out the various universities. i think there are certain institutions that will be used to international students. also check with immigration as not all courses are created equal. she also needs a course that will be recognised overseas ie. USA.
good luck!

I spent more or less 5 years (from 1990-1995) in HK on a visitor's visa. At that time Germans only got 30 days. I went to China almost every weekend and was never asked a question. In any case not using up your time will help. In addition it depends where you come from. For a Filipina that surely wouldn't work.

I couldn't tell about how they would handle it currently. I was working in HK from 1995 until 2004 (left far more than 6 months during SARS, so didn't apply for permanent ID) and work in Macau since 2004.
I am again in HK on a visitor's visa half of my time, but with my base in Macau no questions asked anyway. And again, I rarely stay more than a week at a time.

So a weekend or 2 in Macau every month may possibly be an option.

policies may have shifted somewhat in the 18 years that you describe. especially since there was a change in sovereignty almost 11 years ago.

there is NO WAY that you could get away with spending that much time in HK without getting thrown out for not having a visa. you would eventually need to prove how you could afford to live, which you would basically be doing, without income. and unless your family name is HILTON, that could be very difficult to do.

i would not recommend this route, FAR too stressful!

Agreed with Cara on this

Not a chance in hell you'd get away with the same thing now. Only 2 years ago I was refused an extension of stay on a UK passport because I'd done the visa run twice.

To make a summary and wrap things up it looks like the best option would be to Study, another option is teaching English, but I would suggest study.
