The cost of RENT in Sai Kung

My husband, three sons (4, 2, and 9 months) and me will be moving to HK in July-August this year and of course we have been looking at where we might possibly live. I have heard many good things about the Sai Kung area. We will both be working in the Ho Man Tin area of Kowloon.

These are the questions I would love to have answered:
- How long approximately might it take to travel from Sai Kung to Ho Man Tin?
- How would we travel - train, bus, etc?
- What would rent cost in this area? We don't want to be lavish, just practical. Somewhere with an outdoor area would be ideal.

Thank you for your time!

Can't answer the other questions, but for rental prices, this agency has a good choice of nice places in Saikung: KPC Agency Limited

Unfortunately the Sai Kung area is a very large area and transpost arrangements depends on where in that area you will live. This is the link to a map ?????a?? Centamap When some people talk about Sai Kung it goes from Sai Kung town on the map all the way south towards Clear Water Bay. There are a myriad of villages inbetween. This is the link to the bus company The Kowloon Motor Bus Co. (1933) Ltd ?E?s??h(?@?E?T?T) and this is the link to the Green Mini Bus website Transport Department - New Territories GMB Routes

Ho Man Tin is a little difficult because as far as I know, there aren't any direct mini bus routes/mtr/kcr routes from Choi Hung and Hang Hau (these are the first two towns that any transport leads to out of SK town). It may make more sense to buy a car and drive since you may need to taxi it to Ho Man Tin from either of the towns mentioned above. It really depends on which are of SK you live in. But, having said that in which case, you should not look to rent anywhere near Sai Sha Road which leads to Ma On Shan, that's north east of SK which would lead you to Sha Tin and further north. I wouldn't have a clue how you should go about travelling to Ho Man Tin, would be a huge cirlce though I'd guess.

As for renting, since you are a family of 5, at least a duplex would accommodate you more comfortably and you can find one ranging from 15k/mth upwards depending on the area, although rents have gone up dramaticaly these last 6-8 mths.

I've lived in SK for the past 7 yrs, have moved multiple times within SK and we own a car now although I don't drive to work. I work in Central, I public transport in, it is a bit of a trek changing a couple of times each way but you get used to it and the environment you get in return is so worth it. I have two medium sized dogs so we have a place with a large garden/yard area.

Hope this helps!

couldn't you get the mongkok minibus at least part way to ho man tin?

and sai kung actually extends from sai kung country park all the way to clearwater bay road.

we live in the country park and it takes me 20 minutes to drive to sai kung town and another 10-15 to get to clearwater bay road.

if you drive to ho man tin, depending on where in sai kung you live, you might be faster to head through ma on shan....

Clearwater bay, rent cost anywhere from 6K to 12K for a 3 bedroom village house, might get a garden if your lucky and want to find a ground floor house. duplex will cost from 15 - 25K. Or if you have 30K then you can get a whole village house, all 3 floors. 2100 sq feet. Now thats a bargin.

From CWB to ho man tin, around 30-45mins.

Hi Carang, the distance from ho man tin to your place and to Clear water bay, which one do you think is closer and more convienent if the OP wants to travel by plubic transport.

villages just north of sheung shui are even lot more cheaper doesnt mean that they are convient.
