Amateur Wine Club

Hi there,

I am a French guy, passionate about wines. I admit I know French wines far better that all others, although I still have lots to discover in France alone.

I am considering starting a wine club. The goal is to be 6-10 people, rather committed (ie not just come and go), with the possibility to open and try some diversified bottles, compare, etc.

I'd like it to be serious, ie it's not (only ) about drinking, and we pay attention to the wines and discuss them. Other social topics are welcome, as it's not a wine nerds club.

I'm open to suggestions.

Cheers,

Benji

Sounds good. I am more into wine of the new world but am sure we have something common to share.

I'm in

I would be interested, depending on the timing (as we have 2 small kids). I might be a bit amateur status as I have run a few wine tastings from time to time.

why not just start with a rogue tasting?

... have dates and location been fixed? will be in. how about starting with a rogue tasting:

meet up in a decent restaurant, everybody brings a bottle, all bottles on table, first bottle empty wins ;-)... or, slightly more civilized: all bottles come 'blindfolded', we ask the sommelier to get them in a reasonable order and finish them while discussing the rules of the next tasting...

cheers

Next steps

Hi there,
sorry to keep you waiting...
now the wine tax in HK is 0% so the timing is right...
jmgshanghai, i agree with your suggestion.
First time, no theme, bring something that you know and like (or know that it's good for sure ), preferably blindfolded e.g. with aluminium foil.
I would suggest some weekday, 7.30-ish, Soho/Central. Some restaurants might be open to waive corkage.
Including me and my wife (ladies more than welcome) that is 7+ people on this forum + we have some other friends who might be keen on joining as well.
As far as timing is concerned, that's the tricky part, how about 24 Mar?
Otherwise 2/3 Apr.
Please confirm!
Benji

would be in

... for March 24rth. 19.30 (will be travelling in April)

I am following to ANY restaurant as long as they got a sommelier or cellarmaster who can make sense of the stuff we bring.

Suggest that everybody makes up his mind whether to attend or not BEFORE confirming: no-shows are pretty annoying when a table has been arranged.

cheers Jerome

21 or 22 would also work for me (note that 21/3 is public holiday).
Jerome, how is your schedule?
