Hongky or Hongkies, are pretty common words used to categorize Hong Kong Chinese when they are abroad, ie: while schooling/working etc. Especially prevalent amongst HKSAR / X country dual residents, when they mention people from home.

I've only ever heard non HK Chinese use the words Hong Kongers to associate themselves with.

Back to the topic...

I wish Beijing well in regard to the 2008 Olympics, as I know it must be a massive undertaking for them, especially compared to flawless/popular Olympic locations that are fresh in everybody's mind since 2000. I sincerely hope they can pull a few rabbits out of their hats in regard to lowering the pollution levels during the event, as the world will be watching, warts and all.

Also note the 'majority popular vote' doesn't elect the pres in the US, it's the delegates who really decide the outcome - of course ++ $$$$ and personal endorsement from Oprah... :-P
Personal attacks certainly aren't helpful and fortunately this thread had not descended to that level. However, I find that far too many people are incapable of thinking outside of their own perspective and think in polarizing terms.

Criticism of the Chinese goverment's action is not an attack on the culture of China. Same goes for America.

Person A: "I think [COUNTRY] should do [ACTION]."
Idiot B: "How dare you besmirch my country? Your country is even worse!"
Person A: "But that wasn't what I said..."
Idiot B: "Shut up! All hail [COUNTRY]! It can do no wrong!"

Which was settled in the correct manner, whether you agree with the outcome or not. Could have gone either way, it went the way it went. Yes, there was some grumbling, but itwas accepted. Nobody took to the streets, started a civil war, rampaged amongst the other political group.
All in all, a respectable outcome to a razor thin election.
