Long Weekend Holiday

Hi

I am new to Hong Kong, as have just moved over here with work. I am looking to try and get away for a few weekends, and am interested to find out about a few beach places you all would recommend.
I see Halong Bay (Vietnam) is great after looking through this forum. Are there any other suggestions?

Thank you in advance for any help!

Unfortunately, that probably rules my advice out. Sorry.
We enjoyed Shangri-la Rasa Ria (Kota Kinabalu) and Rasa Sentosa (Singapore) but the beaches weren't so great. We have a small child so we spend more timein the pools than at the beach.

Well, as a couple, I would recommend Phuket, Koa Samui and other islands in Thailand. Otherwise Bali or Maldives also a good option.

Honestly, you can relax and enjoy loads in Thailand but if you budget permit, try Maldives.

Enjoy!

You have to check out Angkor Wat , Cambodia (Siep Reap airlines) and Chang Mai, Thailand (Hong Kong Express). Best trips we have done with the best flight timetables to need minimum time off work.

The Maldives might be a bit of a hike, considering that the OP was talking about weekend getaways.

Say, Friday to Sunday, that means two nights, is is almost not enough to relax. From my experiences, a long weekend plus one day is the minimum for a beach escape from Hong Kong. Flight times/schedules are tough to line up from Hong Kong for just a weekend getaway. Phuket and Koh Samui flights over long weekends book out early also.

Flights into Cambodia and Vietnam are limited also by the number of airlines.

IMO use "weekend getaways" for two nights in easily accessible places such as Macau, Taiwan, Shanghai, Bangkok, Sinapore, etc. Yes, I realise these are not beach places, but they are different, getting you out of HKG and are surprising relaxing (in their own sort of way).

Take a couple of long-long weekends to organise beach holidays to places like Halong Bay, any Thai beach, Malaysia or the Philippines (Boracay, El Nido, Cebu, etc).

I'd go with Lara's Vietnam holiday idea, if one wants to keep travel time to a minimum, and touristy exploration time to a maximum. Angkor Wat is certainly a location you wont forget in a hurry, the most uniquely interesting location mentioned so far.

Your camera will love it too.

Thanks so much for all of your feedback, it is very much appreciated.

We are heading to Guilin this weekend and to Thailand (Koh Samet) for the Easter Long weekend as we managed to get some really great flight deals on Zuji.

Initially, we really wanted to visit Halong Bay in Vietnam but the flights proved to be too expensive for just a short weekend getaway.

Completely agree that Angkor Wat would also be a fantastic trip, but we left it too late and the flights also became too pricey when compared to the other options.

Thanks again!!
