I am from India and I have got a Job Offer from a company in HK. They will provide the Visa for my Direct Family (Wife + Kids), but not for my Mother (age 64) who is dependant on me.
The information on the HK Immigration Department Website states that the Parents above age of 60 are granted Visa only if the Sponsor has Right to Land or on Unconditional Stay. But for entrants who are admitted for taking up Employment as professionals are not allowed Visa for Parents.

Does anyone know if I will be able to procure a Visa for my mother if I accept the Job Offer. And also how difficult it could be to obtain the Visa?

You've read the website, the rules are clear and you have interpreted them correctly. Unfortunately, your mother will not be granted a Dependant Visa.

I think you can try to write a email to Hong Kong immigration can tell them your case. They sometimes may consider out of their rules.Tell them you are the only one who have to take care of your mother and she is not fit to live alone.Just make a try maybe it will work for u.

Hi dear, your case is a simple case, and your mother and both you are wihtin the immigration policy to apply for the dependent visa for your mother. You have NOT read the information fully. just approach on the 7th Floor of immigration tower and apply for dependent visa for your mother.

in your case immigration department will only consider your financial means. if you have a good salary i am sure your mum will get the visa within 2 months.

Just to let you know that if your father is still alive and is above 60, then you should apply his visa together with your mum. otherwise immd Will look why you are not applying for his visa. He is expired or divorced then you need to produce his death or divorce certificate as well.

they may ask your birth certificate as a proof that she is your mother. only her name on your passport is not sufficient that she is your mother.

Are you saying that you know of specific cases where people on an Employment Visa have successfully obtained Dependant Visas in this way?

I have read the ImmD materials in some detail, and it seems absolutely clear to me that the rules say that Dependant Visas are not granted in this situation.

The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department is totally explicit on this - there is no room for ambiguity.

Any person who is on employment visa or on Employment (investment) visa, can apply for his spouse to join him in Hong Kong, Can apply for his children under the age of 18 to reside with him in Hong Kong. Can apply for his parents if they are age 60 or above.


Policy for dependants applying for thier dependants is different.

i can even tell you that if your mum is 55 and father is above 60 then you can still apply for both of them and you will get the Visa for both of them. All the immigration Policies are made for the welfare of the people, if any policy is harming to an individual you need to mention them the difficulty, they will be flexible in applying that policy on you.

For your mum case. i am 100% confident that you will get her visa. i could not see any difficulty there except that if you are not financially strong. Financially strong means you should have savings in your bank account and a stable monthly income. For calculation purpose one could get reference from the social welfare department's CSSA policy,.

In other words, if you earn a monthly income of HK$22,000 and your rent is $6,000, then you have 16,000 for other spendings, lets us say you got two children , $2,500 for each and 2,500 for your wife and 2,500 for you, totally 10,000. you can still show that you have 6,000 in monthly savings to you, you can get your mum visa easily.
