Talking hell--O

to apply Dh visa for a mother is just a trick to immigration, which is not the best way, it is unlikely to approve, unless you can prove that your mother was working for you previously for monetary reward.

the best way is to ask the immigration direclty for her dependent visa. i am sure poonit can get. His case has strong grounds and justifications.

my neighbour got the visa (63 yrs old lady, dependant on her son). Only thing is she dint get the id and she has to get her visa renewed every 6 months. but she doent have to leave the country for that and she can travel too.
so, puneet, your mom can get the visa, not dependants visa though. i will check details with my neighbour and let you know.

That sounds like an Extended Visit visa. That may well be possible, but it's only 6 months at a time with no guarantee of renewal, and, as you say, no HKID, which has various consequences - from no seniors discounts on public transport, through never accumulating time to be able to apply for permanent residency.

Something is better than nothing. moreover my neighbour never had problem in getting extension, she is here for past 3 yrs.

Also, without a ID card you can't use the Public Health System. Outpatient care and Hospitalization is expensive in HK and if he's earning only $20K/mth its not going to be easy.

Hi Mercury_Element,

Is this the 180days Visitor Visa? I don't mind if she has to come back to India twice in a year... she might use that opportunity to get along with the relatives here in India.

Well yes, but on average you will always pay more for an insurance policy than you will take out in benefits (if this were not true then Insurance Companies would go bust) so this works for "unlikely to happen but very high cost if they do" events, but won't help in the long run if your mother has ongoing medical needs.

I have similar case for my mother. My mother below 60 and she is a widow. I am permanent resident living with my family here. I applied dependant visa for my mother and it was rejected because the existing policy is for above 60.
Can I apply a DH visa for my mum?

Thanks for the insights.

Cheers

You can try, but I wouldn't rate your chances very highly. An Extended Visit is more likely to succeed I'd have thought.
