American Club in HK Excuse me, but can anyone (American or USA) give information on the American Club in HK? Where is it, who can join, and how much does it cost? Happy Chinese New Year.

Thanks KIA, for the link. After checking, I will NOT be joining the American Club. Sounds like a group of nice Americans that I would not be interested in meeting. Thanks for the quick response. Oh BTW, Happy Chinese New Year! Last edited by PerryCo; 05-02-2008 at 02:20 PM.

The American Club [quote=PerryCo;197784]Thanks KIA, for the link. After checking, I will NOT be joining the American Club. Sounds like a group of nice Americans that I would not be interested in meeting. Just came across this old thread by accident. I am a member at the Club so I found the implications offensive. I am not active at the Club but as far as I know most members are not "stuffy" or "pretentious" and many of them are not Americans. A lot of members receive their membership courtesy of their company and wouldn't have it otherwise. These people are your average upper-middle-class folks who may or may not have something similar--membership at an upscale social club--back home and whose life style isn't all that different from yours, Perry. Well that and the fact that they also get subsidized or free housing so they live in a much nicer place than they can afford on their own salary. Factored out the club membership and nice apartment, these people take public transportation and shop at mid-range stores just like most do in HK. So... the point is, it is unfair to make a snide comment toward those who you know nothing about and aren't all that different from you, social economically speaking, after all.

I think PerryCo was commenting on the friendly, welcoming and warm approachable nature of the website. It is truely inviting...

You will run into long (and expensive) waiting lists all over HK. KCC is basically closed to new members. United Services is open for new members, unless that recruitment drive they had a little while ago closed their list. The Jockey Club is excepting members, but bring your wallet. Or more probably, your company's wallet. The yacht clubs require boating certificates.

| cloudybay - if you've seen some of Perry's posts, you'd figure he does not like most people for some reason or the other. I'm sure this is some sort of online persona ... would be tough to deal with HK otherwise.
