does marriage help?

Hi

I'm currently staying in hong kong with my visitor's visa. i'm from the uk. it's been more than 1 month.

can anyone tell me whether getting married to my HK girlfriend (citizen ) helps securing a job?

if so, how does it work and how long does it take?

please help!

Once you're married, you can apply for a dependant visa. If she is a Permanent Resident, you can work once you have your visa

Assumptions
(1). She is able to sponsor you with reasonable savings, running job and providing shelter
(2). Being UK citizen, you should stil have couple of months visitor's visa in your pocket
(3). You two are planning to get married soon.

Just get married and prepare supporting documents like Marriage Cert, her Employment Letter, Passbook/ Bank Statement, Other Financial standings (if any) etc. etc. and directly apply for 'Change of Status' at Immd. Usually takes 1-2 months to approve....

Some notes based on my personal experience:

When my wife sponsored me (4 years ago) we were both living outside HK at that time. So that means she didn't have a job or house in HK at that time but I already had secured a job (and signed contract) in HK before I move here.

The Immigration Dept. requested also proof that we had known each other for some time before we got married, so we had to sent one of our personal correspondence letter with its envelope as evidence of our long time relation.

Since the Immigration Dept. examines each case with different criteria you can't know what they might ask..

hello

Once of the things they do request for proof are photos of you two together.

Yeah.. they do ask for some proof such as personal letters and photos... I have been wondering about this for 4 Yrs, how does it prove your relationship is genuine? But somehow, they are happy and content with such things....

Yeah Kostas, I went thru that too. Just moved to HK beginning this year with wife as sponsor. Had my visa approved in 3 mths. They needed photos, letters, photocopy of passport to show how many times I've been to HK. lol etc.....
