Trying to find quality IT nerds I am trying to find quality IT people in HK and there seems to be lack of them here. Mostly a finance industry crowd here. Before this I was putting together my team in Singapore and it was so much easier. What advise do people have here in finding good IT developers?

| Having said that, depends on what sort of folks you're looking for and the skills. Know atleast two of the top performance / linux guys in HK are on here. Java -- dunno anyone specifically (would depend on what Java skills you need .. J2EE server based can be pretty diff from client Java) Web / PHP / SQL types -- plenty around

KIA - Will look around the postings here. I equate nerdiness to Linux,C++/C, scripting and the likes. For some reason (maybe its me) Java/J2EE dosent sound nerdy enough to me I did not want to put in the details on the forum, running the risk of it being considered free advert.

Unfortunately, there is a lack of both supply and demand for the sort of thing you're talking about. The market is far more biased towards the finance and corporate/Java type of developer and away from the more hardcore type. There just isn't that much 'nerdy' work, and the local market doesn't really produce many developers who would be up to it - I'm not sure which came first, the chicken or the egg. I speak, as you might guess, from personal experience. Krypton - I suspect we should have a more private chat about this...

Humm ... I am a Linux C++ developer planning to move to HK. I thought I saw a lots of C++ jobs at the ibanks, are they more support than hardcore development roles ? Please PM me if you'd like to share your experience. Thanks.
