Carang,

We have just had friends rent a tri level home a few km down Yan Yee road, where the new development is in Tai Mong Tsai, and the rent there is $45K per month and no security on site.

Doesnt seem to be working out particularly cheap these days, not unless you're willing to get something rather tired. Maybe Tai Wan Village, but even those homes arent cheap anymore and they are tired as, right on the water about a km from the Sai Kung Police station on your left before the beach bar opposite the dai pai dong.

ha ha I know the area like the back of my hand.

And I used Google Maps not google earth, for the pictures..

i have a friend in a brand spanking new ground floor with a large garden. they pay $12k (if i remember correctly)

my cousin has 1st floor ($4k)

i know that village houses can be had for less than $40k. maybe not the entire house, but at least a couple of floors.

you just need to do the research and ground work. it is not as easy as going to DB where there are loads of agents willing to try to help you find something in your price range.

i find the agents in sai kung only willing to help if you have a big budget. if you are looking in the lower $$$ then it can be hard to find a decent agent. you are better off going to the villages and asking around and then trying to rent without using an agent.

i do concede that prices are rising fast everywhere though and it may be more difficult in the future to find something reasonably priced

bus to airport from Sai Kung

Hi ,
My husband and I looked at properties to rent in Clearwater Bay last week and the agent said he thought there is a bus that runs from Sai Kung town centre (near post office) directly to Cathay City. Has anyone heard of this? Thanks!

hkjudy will become famous soon enough
I just checked with a realtor who's been here a long time (Julie King from the Property Shop) and knows a lot of these kinds of things.

She said:
There is Cathay Bus for Their Employees that goes from Sai Kung but otherwise i only know of Buses from Ma On Shan/Shatin & Lam tin/Diamond Hill.

So...for employees of Cathay - there is a bus.

Cheers!
Judy

If you are looking in Clearwater Bay. There is also a bus from Tseung Kwan O - E22A that runs every 20 mins and drops you off at Cathay City. Takes about 1 hr.
