I'm thinking of getting new router, good quality but cheap speakers for my ipod, a usb tv tuner, a skype phone, and instead of running around, I wanted to do it all in one place and be done with it!

None of those are Mac specific and can be bought in Wanchai Computer Centre. Belkin does good routers, Airport Extreme, iTV, any speakers and Ipevo Skype phone......

Indeed, unless you're buying software there aren't really any compatibility issues. If you don't particularly want Apple's own brand products then you're going to be buying the same stuff as pc owners and so you can go to the normal computer malls.

Hi

For router Belkin is great for the new Macbook range, check your home connection first though. Have free broadband from HGC Powerzone at home works great with a LAN cable but is crap with the router.

IFC 2 has an apple store in the mall, i think the reseller name is design club they also have a store in Windsor house on the 10th floor.

For speakers best bet is Sham shui po and not wanchai otherwise you get a Gweilo price!!

The TV tuner did not quite work well on a friend's iMac inspite of being Now broadband. Pic quality was pathetic.

PM me if you need more info.

Actually there is a compatibility issue: I can't update the firmware on my Linksys router with a mac and the Linksys Skype phone I bought wasn't compatible with mac. That's why I want a shop that does only mac-compatible stuff, so I don't have to go home with something that doesn't work. A trusted place where I can get mac and mac-compatible products and not get ripped off.

Comet Square in Wanchai Computer Centre or 298 Hennessy have Skype phones for Mac- I saw them this afternoon. If you go to Wanchai CC ask for Andy or Ivan and they'll see you straight.

I stand corrected. In our office we have PCs and a Mac on a network and they share router, peripherals etc quite happily but I guess there are some manufacturers that don't make drivers for Macs.

Try Windsor House (311 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay). There are 4 - 6 shops that carry Apple / Mac related products. They are on the 10th - 12th floor, I think. I've always shopped at Designer Group ( DG Lifestyle Store ) which is on the 11/F. But you might be able to get a small discount if you shop at Cablex, which is on the 10th or 11th floor.
