Today my friend and I were talking about India getting UNSC membership and UK supporting that. He said that UNSC should consider Europe as one block, then you have Russia, China, India etc so on and so forth, that way one can get a global view of things. What do you think??

I don't see why Russia should have a seat at the UNSC if Europe gets amalgamated into one block.

May be because of its sheer size...

UNSC is the biggest waste of time and are simply worthless. UN excels at talking a lot while accomplishing nothing. Rogue nations everywhere piss on the UN resolutions as they are never backed up with resolute action....Although no one in the world does that well today except possibly for China.

Physical size? Well in that case Canada is bigger than the USA and Australia & Brazil are more or less the same size, so what about them?

probably has prestige value for some.
What does one get by being on the UNSC?...and what are the responsibilities?...I know these are probably all notional but am curious. Does it involve troop deployment? I would be interested to hear how Indian domestic public opinon would feel abt the urge of their government to get their young men killed in other people's wars (as if they didnt have enough in their own neighbourhood).

Doesnt the concept of a nuclear weapon render meaningless any 'security' council?

I doubt if Indians do care for UNSC or any such 'council' for that matter. Who gives a damn when your focus is on earning your meal...
