Its that time of the year - people are stressing about sevens tickets and many folks are taking advantage of them, and selling them at outrageous prices.

While I generally don't have a problem with individuals trading tickets I'd like to create a forum thread (NO ADVERTS PLEASE) where people can discuss alternative ways to get tickets.

1) Buy them at the gate. In my experience, there is always someone selling tickets in front of the stadium. There are several entrepreneurs who work the crowd at the Rugby Village and facilitate the trade.

2) If you're networked or work for a larger company with expatriates / rugby union members - ask around, many folks who get the tickets cannot make it at the last moment and a fair number of them would be happy to give them away to a fan.

What else has worked for you in the past sevens?

I've bought tickets advertised on here (at not much over face value). I've got them for free from people who had spare corporate giveaways (and I've been on the other end and given away spare corporate tickets, particularly for Friday & Saturday - no I don't have any this year so please don't ask!). And I've bought them from guys in the streets up from CWB MTR to the ground - again for not that much above face value (say$500 for a Saturday ticket).

This year Mrs PDLM is playing netball for a rugby club's team so we get two guaranteed tickets that way

I have always got them on the way from the MTR to the stadium on the day of the event itself, at a slight mark up.

Got them either free (corporate) or bought them the day of the event at the gate (face value). Will probably get 2 again this year for free (corporate).

If you can't get tickets to the Sevens, you could always, oh, I dunno, go see a play...just saying.

In my first year in the region (1995) I managed to get tickets direct from the HKRFU, these were unsold tickets that had been returned from overseas.

I'm not sure if this is still an option but back then I had contacted (Tel & Fax) the HKRFU around 3 weeks before the event and picked up the tickets 2-3 days before.
