Hi guys,

I am new to the whole HK relocation process and I've been researching quite a bit over the last two weeks or so, but this is my first forum post

I am European citizen, but I've been living in Chicago, USA for 8 year already. I am now planning to move to Hong Kong (this is my and my wife's personal decision - we are not being relocated by our employers).

I am currently in the process of finding a job in as an IT guy in an investment bank (this is what I've been doing in the US so far).

Ok, here is my long list of various questions I can think of right now (I am sure there will bem ore to come

1. It seems like most job postings are through recruiting agencies... Are recruiting agencies the right way to go about finding a job?

2. I spoke with a recruiting agency and they told me they deal with companies A,B and C and advised me against applying for any positions in these companies on my own (in order to avoid duplicate applications). Does this sound right to you?

3. I am interested in pursuing an MBA in HKU. How hard is it to get accepted in the university? I read tehir requirements on the web site, but I still don't know how competitive the admission is and how far above the requirements I need to be... Any advice?

Ok, I'll probably coe up with more questions later, but I will really appreciate some guidance on these for now

If you have a solid resume, the chances are the HR manager will pick your direct resume and not the one sent by the recruiter - to avoid paying the commissions involved.

Unless the recruiter has some secret sauce (or an exclusive listing) I am not sure why you'd not want to apply directly.

I would generally prefer to apply directly, but it seems like most job postings come from recruiting agencies. I find very few jobs posted directly from a company (and in most cases, these are small companies).

I cannot find any jobs posted by JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley or the rest of the big banking players in Hong Kong.

Am I not looking at the right place?

probably not many people see the need to post job ads.
just write in unsolicited, they would have received tonnes of such letters and anytime they need to fill a spot they just pick from a qualified one inside..
