Lightbulb Waiting for good results (work visa)

Hello Forum readers,

I have found a job in Hong Kong, and the work visa application will be starting the coming week. I have read everything about the immigration policy on the website of the HK immigration department.

Still, I am wondering how strict they are and whether I can expect a refusal. Are there any persons here which have experienced work visa refusals?

Second: how long will this application take?It is said that is between 4 weeks and up to three months. I find it a quite much a broad time line. Can someone tell me what the practical facts are?

Looking forward for your answers,
and joining life in Hong Kong!!

Tada

hello

Most cases are processed within 4 weeks if they have been prepared correctly and that the case is stong on the grounds for that person to work in Hong Kong.

There are a number of reasons why it would be refused.

Some of the common ones are, low salary offered by the employer for the position, under qualified applicant for the position and the company already has a large percentage of foreign nationals in the company compared to local employees.

The application can be speeded up by personal followup from the employer. They can contact the immigration cell that is handling the application (should be on the receipt) and request priority processing.

Known people who have managed to get visas approved in 2-3 working days. (This is done for large projects... )

hello

Thank you for your replies.

These replies and and the fact that nobody has told me real stories about refusals of work visa (except the ones about dependant visas) stems me quite positive.

Ofcourse if anybody has experienced a refusal of work visa, I would like to hear about it.

Tada

I am very curious, can anybody help me estimating my case?

in my case:

salary: not too low I think (what is low?)
qualification: I have the right diplomas and can show these.
foreign nationals and locals: some departments do only have foreigners working, others only locals.

Hello siusin,

Fortunately, everything went all fine, and I got my visa within the four weeks.
And how are things going for you?

tadah!

Hi Tadah,

My working visa has been approved and I am planning to come over after CNY. :-) Glad that the waiting period is finally over.
