| NET Scheme Allowance Hello, I have a couple of questions about applying for the NET scheme here in HK. I saw on the EMB site that one requirement is to provide a certificate of service. I have been working in Language centres here in HK for the last 2 and a half years and have never received one of these. Would a reference letter do? There is a housing allowance offered under the NET scheme, but I saw that it is only given to people whose home is normally outside of HK. I am from Canada, but have been living and working in HK for the last 2 and a half years. If I am already living here when i apply for the NET scheme, will that make me ineligible to receive the allowance? I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks, John |

| unfortunately for you, it is spelled out pretty clearly... EDB - Recruitment for Primary NET oops, i guess you already know this... you might consider going home for the summer and applying FROM Canada...but then the issue of 'how did you get a HKID card already??'...might rear it's ugly head... | A reference letter is the same as a cerificate of service - just what they are more commonly called here I think! As for the residence/housing allowance issue - in terms of showing that your normal place of residence is outside of HK it is not too hard - assuming you have a canadian passport, regulary return, have family/an address in Canada. The NET scheme is short of teachers, having a couple years experience and being western you should have no problem getting on. That is, as long as you interview ok etc Im not a NET, (decided to opt for a full time job |

I was hoping I was missing something. Well, it hardly makes it worthwhile when you take away that housing allowance. I haven't been home since I arrived here two and a half years ago, and don't intend to take a trip back just to apply for a job I'm not guaranteed. |

| Hi there!! I don't think you should have prob. to get the housing allowance if you can prove that your normal place of residency is outside HK. A friend of mine already had her depend visa when she applied for the scheme last year but still she gets the allowance ....she told me she had to fill up some end no. of forms and had to give some evidence like a house under her name back home in Singapore(she is a singaporean). But she still gets it. I hope this helps! cheers, xxx |
