Air Cargo Center Experience

Hi All,
I am new to this forum although I have been a lurker for the past couple of months while waiting for my employers response as well as waiting for the work visa.

I must say that the admistrators and the forumers are most gracious and helpful. Kudos to you all. Okay, back to the real topic, I will be relocating to Hong Kong soon. I am given a very miserly FOC door to door shipping of less than 50 cubic feet. This is most definitely not enough. I have tried negotiating with the company to no avail. Therefore I have decided to send some items over myself by air freight. This will be different from doing it via the usual forwarders like Fedex or UPS as I am currently an airline staff and I get a certain ammount of cargo rebate each year.

I will have to personally forward my items to my company's cargo department which is not a problem, my problem starts when the items arrive in HK. I have no idea how to go about collecting them. I tried checking through the HKIA website but the info there is not really relevant to me, neither searching through the forum search brings any results. Therefore I am asking and hoping that someone who has the personal experience in collecting or dealing with the air cargo service/terminal in HKIA share their experience. Thanks so much in advance.

Where you coming from?

If the 50cu ft allowance is airfreight I would say that is not an inconsiderable amount given free! If seafreight ,then they are miserly as seafreight rates eastward are pretty low as to be insignificant.

With any freight you have to normally use forwarders who have your details and delivery instructions at the destination , if your being your own forwarder than put your contact details as consignee on the AWB. Then the airline freight department will contact you.

Remember please an AWB is NOT a legal document so anyone can take your goods and the shipper has no liability. Insure it unless you can afford to lose it. If Sea freight then a BOL is a legal document as original so the shipper has a liability if released to the wrong person not presenting the ORIGINAL BOL.

Hi Boris,

Thanks for the prompt reply. I am coming from Malaysia. I have to admit the abbreviations that you post are foreign to me. I am able to get the definition of them off the internet but on the actual usage and how to go about them I am duh...

The shipment is for sea freight which is indeed miserly, no use whining about it. I have to try to make the best of the situation I am in, meaning I can still air freight using my company's cargo rebate.

Hence, my questions are how to go about collecting the items that I have sent from the HK Air Cargo when I am in HK. How long can the cargo be stored in HKIA? Can I put my friend as the consignee? How do go about the custom clearance? Basically every bit of information is good!!
