Dependant's visa Hi, I work in HK (but UK national) and my fiance also wants to get a job here. Unfortunately so far it's not been so successful getting him sponsored for a work visa. Is it possible to get a dependant's visa for him if we're not married yet? My company told me no but I've heard others were going to try it (and then got their own sponsorship). We own a house in UK and have been together for years if that would help the process? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Thanks.

According to Hong Kong Marriage Laws, you are not legally married. So you would not qualify for a HKID, but if he finds work, you can be sponsored for a work permit or ID. No need to get married just for that reason. But why not get married?

People have reported success getting extended visit visas where they can clearly demonstrate a long-term partnership, but these don't allow you to work. There have been one or two second-hand reports of Dependant visas for unmarried couples who've been together for years, have kids etc, but hard evidence is a bit hard to come by. It is trivial to get married in HK, so that would seem to be the obvious answer.
