Total and absolute agreement with Pekkerhead.
He who invents extends. He who commercialises exploits. In this case GM.

Which moves neatly to Siggas repost.
When your GM, a few million in the expenses column for lobbying Congress never did anyone ( but the people ) any harm and pleases the shareholders.

To Quote Golda Meyer " Who's your favorite General? " Reply " General Motors "

Just to expand on Boris' quote : and I have to say this because I shared a room with an israeli once and listened to this story till my ears bled dry.

This supposedly happened after the Yom Kippur War when a US politician asked Golda to give him three of her "generals" and take some of his in return (hinting at Moshe Dayan/Elazar)...her reply was the request for general motors/electric and dynamics ...
maybe if the swap happened the US wouldnt have lost vietnam and GM would actually have learned to make a half decent car.

I thought cows were the per capita highest contributer to the greenhouse effect ...and hence I suggest we butcher the bovine bastards
...oh sorry we already do that!

That Golda Meir anecdote is amusing .. but most probably an urban legend.

Fits the whole quick thinking and business savvy stereotype just too well .. and ... no credible references on .ac.il or even .il sites. If it was indeed true .. it would have been a much celebrated moment (as it supposedly happened after the six day war).
