Day Care for babies

Hi,
We are a working couple .Just moved to HK.
Would like to know if there are any good day care centres in HK near Olympic or Kowloon mtr sation.
Our baby is 10 months old and would prefer someplace where they speak English.
Cheers

day care is VERY uncommon in HK. there are a few around, i don't think any of them use English. they are generally gov't run and have waiting lists.

most people here employ full-time, live-in domestic helpers to care for their children. it is usually less than you would pay for day care in most western countries. and the ladies will cook and clean for you too.

Hey thanks for ur response.Actually we are planning to employ a helper but the thing is we are too scared to leave our baby with the helper the whole day.So were thinking if we could leave him at a day care while we r away.

Cheers

make sure you get a helper with new born experience. i would think it would be better to leave the baby with the helper. there is 1-1 attention from the helper. at a daycare, your child would be one of many. and not always the priority.

i've never heard of anyone in hk that has a helper wanting to send their child to daycare...that's the main reason for having a helper.

we hired one when we were expecting our first. our two children ADORE her. we were very explicit with her. we wanted out children raised a certain way. she had to follow OUR methods, rules etc. we also allow her to discipline them. when i do it, i take away toys/send to the bedroom. she has my son stand in the corner. it doesn't matter to me, but there is NO hitting. she knows this and follows it.

like i said, just get someone with experience and stay home for a week with them to make sure they know how YOU like things done.

good luck!

Not a Mom but agree with Carang's advice....

particularly about the part where you have to be explicit.

I do know that a majority of day cares are government or NGO run mainly for lower income families ... the Hong Kong Society for the Protection of Children ... have a few centers but they do have a waiting list and you have to qualify.

Welcome to Hong Kong!

I guess yeah having the helper to look after the baby is the best option at hand .

Having a helper is the way to go, but make sure as others have already rightly suggested that she has newborn experience. Make sure she is what she is, I've heard many poor experiences from friends and I've personally been in your situation and also have experienced unpleasant surprises..... Good Luck
