Hong Kong!!!

As a UK based (and born) male teacher, I have the opportunity to take up a post in Hong Kong.

However, I understand that it would be virtually impossible for my non married partner (girlfriend) to get any work, or even a visa to move with me.

Is this true?

The job looks perfect, and it is a shame to miss out without looking at all possible angles

Yes, true. You either need to get married (fairly trivial to do in HK) or she would need to get sponsored for an employment visa in her own right.

my ex boss was not legally married to his wife (from UK) but they have a kid and are considered 'common law couples' (? is that the right term)

he seems to have no problem bringing her over the immigration counter to renew 3mths visa each time. again, he travels very extensively for vacation every other month or so.. maybe they grant you visa if they see that you are not just going to macau and back every quarter, and are really travelling to NZ and Japan and the further zones.

freeier,

Lots of people do it, but do you really want the stress every time you come through immigration that they could question your bona fides and refuse entry (or impose conditions)?

She can live and work in HK as long as you have a work visa and you remain married
