moving to HK

Hi all,
I need some info on moving to HK..
my wife is a HK native..
i am a US citizen..
we have been married for 4.5 years
she moved back to HK about 6 months ago to resume teaching at a mid-lvl school, which supplies an apartment at a lower rate in addition to her salary.

I am planning to join her within the next 2-3 months and need to know what steps we have to take/what is needed for me to do so.

I understand that she must sponser me as a dependant spouse and show such things as income.

I also understand that they will look at both of our "net worth" and am wondering what is considered enough.

I intend to take a TEFL course of certification once i get there, in hopes of obtaining employment as an English Tutor

So, with the info given above, can anyone please give me some direction?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Randyxa,
(1) I assume your wife's status in HK is 'PERMANENT RESIDENT' and therefore you will be allowed to work as dependent.
(2) If she has been working in HK for 6 months and as you mentioned she has been provided accomodation + salary, in my opinion, your case is pretty strong. As such, there isnt any fix amount criteria for net worth but practically speaking lets say even HKD 10000 salary plus acco package should be good enough to sponsor you.
Of course, it would be advantageous if you could show some savings and other assests.

thanks for the reply,
(1) yes, she is a "permanent resident"
(2) she has managed to save a bit already, and i will have around USD$8,000 or so..
as far as "other assets" i'm not sure what is meant by that..but i will be bringing not much more than a couple of suitcases of clothing/belongings with me, as the shipping cost for the few worthwhile items is greater than the "replacement" cost

I'm a PR and my wife has been approved with less than $8000 a month and no savings, although the fact that our son is a PR and at kindergarten here probably helped

Randyxa,
If thats the case, you dont need to worry much and just go ahead. Regarding Other assests, what i meant was you may wish to show up, if any. Otherwise, its not mandatory..

Roger,
I dont think your Kid's status could have made much difference. In fact, all they want to make sure is that the sponsor should be able to support the dependant financially and do not become a burden on Govt.'s social security.. Thats it... Otherwise, they are quite liberal and fair in family reunion cases..
