As always, the advice is to come here, get a serviced apartment for the first 2-4 weeks, and walk the streets to get a feel for the place. No shortage of estate agents on the ground.

Starting an office in HK .... & accomodation rental Hi There I hope you dont mind my asking you for a little advice. I am due to start up a Hong Kong office for our firm in 2008 and would really appreciate some advice. We are an established UK-Headuquartered Search and Selection firm, with offices in London and New York. Our clients are within the Banking and Financial Services sector so we are ideally looking for a small and very cost-efficient office-space on Hong Kong island ideally within the Queensway, Central or anywahere neaer the Financial Centre of HK Island. We need just enough space for 2 -3 staff. Secondly, I am looking for advice on a guideline of costs for rental accomodation. What should a guy be expected to pay for a 1 bedroom accomodation on Hong Kong Island? ..Is it realistic to have 1 -2 bedroom accomodation without having to flat-share. Thirdly I am looking to advise my boss on the prioce range he should be budgeting for a medium level apratment for he and his wife..areas , location and costs please do fee free to reply to me by email to echenuk@hotmail.com Thanks so much have a great Christmas!

If you are looking for an apartment around 1000.00 sq ft. in Hong Kong Island. I will suggest you go to Causeway Bay as most of the apt size are quite big. In Wanchai around 75% of the apts are less than 700 sq ft and the rest of large size apts, many people will keep it for ownuse.

Thanks Yvonne I hope you had a good Christmas? Thanks for your help thus far, maybe we should start with the accomodation for me and My boss. I think my boss and his wife would prefer a mid-level apratment ie. not near too noisy roads and the apartment in a middle-class area that is relatively safe. I am not sure about their budget but I would say the equivalent to £1000 - 1500 per month or HK$ 15,000 - 22,500 would probably not be a problem - it may be even upto HK$ 28,000 per month. As they will be newly wed, they will probably want something reasonably new inside ie. modern furniture, large size rooms, a shared swimming pool and good transportation links. He (boss) would probably want something near to the office ie. 30 minutes max to Central or Exchange Square. As for me, I had a google on the tung chung?? area near the airport and it seems kind of in my budget range for a 2-bed apartment. My only concern is how late does the MTR work until as I would not really want to take the taxi home every night. I would envisage me working until 12.00pm most nights as it's a start-up... As for my own personal accomodation, I will have to pay for this out of my own pocket, as it is unlikely I will get that much assistance. As I will be continuing to pay for my flat mortgage in London (GF/ partner is not able to relocate just yet), I think the best I can budget for is about HK$7000 -HK 12,000 (or between £450 - £800 per month) anything more would be too expensive and probably be a waste of money for just myself living there. Thanks again for your help
