Yes, I would imagine a large proportion of video files in personal collections are divX format...

... however my particular plan was to convert DVD/other files to the H264/MP4 formats to make them compatible with the Apple TV, this would also make my DVD media easier to export (Some customs officials don't like seeing mainland discs in luggage/shipments )

The Apple TV is a neat little product despite it's manufacturer imposed limitations.

I've got a modded Xbox sitting under my TV - it's running Freevo rather than XBMC, because that's the way I roll, but the principle is the same. You should be able to snag one pretty cheaply now, and it does the job well, talking to my Linux fileserver. My non-technical flatmate has become rather used to it and has been heard to complain if new content doesn't appear on it at least once a week or so...

It may also be worth looking into something like the Neuros OSD, or a similar dedicated small streaming box. It may not be as flexible, but it would probably be smaller, quieter, lower-power, and maybe simpler to setup and use.

I been looking at the HAVA myself, seems really solid.
www.myhava.com

Anyone tried it out at home?
One good thing is that it can route now-tv, i-cable etc. so you can have one decoder and still watch one multiple tv's, computers, PDs etc.

One drawback is that you can only schedual recordings if you have MCE or Vista MCE.
If you dont have one of those you will need to manualy press the record button before the show/movie starts.

I have used a product of http://www.mediagate.co.kr/main.php for over a year. I like to watch the EZTV shows on my TV, rather than on my PC. Use Google or something to translate the website, else Wanchai CC has them.

Looks like they have gone wireless in the interim as well.

Perhaps not new but I've just noticed a product from Archos, the 'TV+'

ARCHOS

Seems to have similar functionality to the Apple TV (+ ability to record from Cable/Sat) but hopefully without the format constraints, I am guessing here but as my Archos AV400 plays DivX and xVid files I assume this may also.

Anyone here used this product?

Stoob - does not do HD as far as I recall and you'll need to purchase plugins for DivX.
