For orinigal poster: There is a website. Cannot find it through google because it is a flash site. PARK ISLAND - OCEANCREST Phase 5 had loads of brand new flats, but not too many are furnished. For you reference, I pay $8.6K for Block 28, upper floor with balcony facing NT, 745ft (2 bedrooms). Probably could have got a bit lower, but anyways...One complaint: no electric outlet in the bathroom, wtf!?!?! If you want furnished, try the older blocks. People either love Park Island or hate it, so best if you come yourself and take a look. You might want to check out Discovery Bay if you have a family. It's not for me, too annoying kids running around, and too many members of the Hong Kong Association of Gwailos Married to Southeast Asian Women of Humble Origins there. Transportation is 24hr. Ferry to Central IFC takes 25 minutes. Bus to Tsing Yi takes 10-15 minutes, and at morning rush hour runs every 3-5 minutes. The official bus schedule is out of date, they run much more frequently to/from Tsing Yi then advertised, bus is always full! Zero problem with airplane noise! I do hear the occasional loud container ship horn, however.

You might consider Discovery Bay too It's less isolated and offers many of the same amenities of Park Island. In Hong Kong, your best bet will also be to go to the area and walk around to the different property agents. If you're really ambitious, you can set up appointments beforehand, but there are usually people in the offices all day. Best of luck!

Now that the airport bus is also running there is not much more you can ask for. More variety in terms of restaurants right at your doorstep would be good I must admit. The only place difficult to get to is Lantau, even though it is just a few meter away! |

[quote=chimo;195171]For orinigal poster: ...One complaint: no electric outlet in the bathroom, wtf!?!?! - the lack of electric outlet was pretty much the first thing I noticed when moved in! The other problem we have is in relation to the water supply in the bathroom - its either too hot or too cold and getting a steady 'just right' temperature in the shower takes much patience and skill! Other than that no complaints at all - we face in the airport direction and don't have any noise problems (the view is fantasic)

Same complain here! No electric outlet in the bathroom! It's a major pain in the a#$! I also have a fuse in the bathroom cabinet... but nothing that resembles a power socket. Might be one of the great ideas they implemented in Phase 5... like removing the microwave and offering a build-in steamer as a standard kitchen appliance. The kitchen in the old phase is more userfriendly from what I could see. A lot more storage!

Park Island / Discovery Bay Hi, I've been reading with much interest the exchange that is currently going on about rental properties in Park Island. If all goes well, I shall be relocating to Hong Kong this mid-May and working (as mentioned in another thread) in the airport. Some places for rental properties that I'm considering, based on what I know (which isn't a lot) are Discovery Bay and Gold Coast. Park Island has cropped up now following responses to my query in another thread posted in this website. [GeoExpat is really GREAT!] Am I not searching rightly given the scarce rental propery websites that are thrown up upon a google-search? Can anyone point me to some contacts? I'd be grateful for any help / advice. Thanks! Ceepee

we're in phase I block 5 and we have no outlet in the bathroom either :-P which is very weird... there's strangely an outlet right outside the door of the bathroom though, which may be for the broom? it's weird but it may be a safety precaution? as hk is so humid and the bathroom is even more so - perhaps they are trying to avoid issues? other than this (which we've overcome with just charging razors etc in other bedrooms) - overall we still like our place... but having seen the newer phases, the rooms are SO much smaller... our master now is almost as big as the one we had in the states.

in terms of rentals - need to go thru agents on the island itself - there's a bunch of them. but again would suggest the older phases (since they are still quite new and well-kept). Since PI is SunHungKai, the quality of the buildings is quite good. The phases closest to the pier is the best. Oh yeah, and they're expanding the Park N Shop on the island, I believe it's converting to a superstore by April! I'm in the u.s. right now but can't wait to check it out once we get back this May!! :-) one inconvenience you need to consider for both PI and DBay is that no taxis are allowed on the island, so you are dependent on the boat and shuttle schedule. altho residences in PI are lobbying for allowing for taxis in the overnight hours -! we're paying only $15k for our 1000+ sq ft apt... very efficient (since it's in the original older phase) facing the tsing-ma bridge and central (on a rare clear day heheh).
