actually in this thread i sort of agree with pdlm. human, whether the readers in the thread, or the readers of all the thrashy papers in the country, wants extreme story so that they can show their compassionate side of life. the whole event that i read was painted to lead ppl to think that - they adopted when they thought they cannot have a baby and then they had two of their own, implying that's the reason they gave up the baby >> but this fact is being challenged. they actually had an older kid of their own. - they intentionally not taught her dutch so that she will not blend into the family/culture >> which again, according to the diplomat, she speaks dutch. - that it was a simple case of adopt and abandon >> but with so many experts in the child psychology and medical fields involved, if they did not want it to work they wouldn't have went to all these ppl! i think we just have to be less emotional until all the facts are out there. notice how this board are full of ppl that gets green or red squares for commenting on things that are 'so sweet' or 'so kind' etc. that's just how human think and behave. unfortunately. telling the truth is not always the best thing to do if the truth is not what the mass wants to hear!

So it is fine to abandon and dump the child just because it's not working out? Freeier, will you do that to your son when he turns 8 and he doesn't want to do his homework, hates eating dinner and acts up to your wife and your soon to be born child? Get into trouble in school all the time, will you bring your son and dump your son at the welfare department and say, sorry, not working out? The main point that I am upset about is the fact that the child is ABANDONED! My mother was adopted and I know a couple more people that were adopted, and sure, they gave their parents lots of problems because they were adopted and they were adjusting to their families but these families did not give up on their adopted child. If a child is been adopted, the child has the same rights as a biological child. If you wouldn't give your child up unless it's in a severe situation, then the adopted child should not be given up too.

FFS can't you read? The child was NOT abandoned. The child was moved to a temporary foster home on the advice of medical and social welfare experts after at least a year of those professionals attempting to help the family improve the situation with the girl in their home. And anyway, whatever happens to her must all be just part of God's great plan for her, right? Who are we to question what God has in mind for her?

It appears that many of you are making judgment without knowing all the details. Such situation certainly isn't pleasant for anyone involved in this case. I am not a God, therefore I will refrain from saying more.

And even if true, are you suggesting that if that was exactly what the experts on Social Welfare and Mother's Choice advised them to do that they should have ignored that advice? I believe that the Social Welfare Department has the right to remove the child without consent in certain situations. Maybe that's what happened here? I doubt it. But my point is that we simply don't know what happened. Unfortunately the world is never as simple as you and your imaginary friend would like to believe. |

thanks for the personal attack on my belief as usual. You stand to what you believe and that's great and I stand on my belief that I don't think the child should be given up so easily and let's keep it to that. No need to bring in my religion.

I think the lesson I have learnt from this incident based on what a good number of people (some parents of course)... that the society i live in will condone my act if after years of medical therapy and on advice of so called "medical experts" that if my child is a continuing burden for me, I can simply rock up the Social Welfare Department and surrender him/her... "Sorry mate, I've tried. For many years, I've tried. Can you please take my child away now and find him/her a new home?" Just bloody pathetic. Regardless of what the media reports say, it's just ridiculous to say that you can return an adopted child. I'd love to see a parent do that to their own flesh and blood. I work with some of the poorest and most difficult kids in Hong Kong. Never once have I heard their parents say... I give up, can you please just look after my child instead!!!

My understanding is that SWD advice was "in the best interests of the child". We have no idea what the situation here is. We pay taxes so that experts can give advice and take whatever action is necessary. I really don't see why people are going after the parents - if, after several years of trying, they are simply following the advice of the experts then surely if you think that advice is wrong you should be questioning the experts, not the parents?
