Moving to Hong Kong with cats

To all british expats living in hong kong,

My husband and I are hoping to move to Hong Kong next year, but have two cats and don't want to leave them in England. Has anyone been through the process of bringing their cats with them and any idea of total cost to do so? Also, how have their cats adjusted to life in hong kong, are there any issues we need to be aware of?

Thanks guys

Thumbs up Ferndale Kennels are your best option, imho.

Although I am not British, the family that operate ferndale kennels, cattery and export a pet, are.

Now, in regard to how your cats will cope in Hong Kong, this is going to depend a lot on what your living environment in the UK is like, compared to the style of living in HK, especially if you plan on living high rise.

If you already live in an apartment, or if your cats are essentially indoor only, then you wont have any problems. Also remember to bring some comfort things that your cat associates with, like a blanket, favourite cushion etc etc.

If you plan to live in an apartment, I'd get detachable window guards made that can be clipped to the windows, just so kitty doesnt get distracted by a dragon fly, lose his awareness for a moment that he's on the 15th floor, and falls, using up all 9 lives.. I had these specially made from my own design @ $500HKD per window ( 2 ), easilly detached, and stored away, when not in use.

We have 3 British shorthair cats, all indoor, and have had no problems, but have to say our cats don't pine or behave any differently when moved to a new location, as long as they know where the food is, kitty litter tray and that we are there, our cats are happy campers.
As you can see, below. A typical day at the office lol
