Wireless N

Has anybody upgraded their home wireless network to the new Wireless "N" or rather the "Pre-N" routers and adapters?

If so, is the speed & range improvement as much as 2-5 times as advertised?

Any tips on brands, prices, best shops in Wanchai Mall etc ?

TIA

Thanks Tall dude. I suppose you wouldn't know about how well the Apple device connects with Windows PCs. Any experience or comparison with Linksys?

it works well with my Windows PC's and Desktops.

I've had a number of different routers Belkin N1 / WRT54G / WAP54G / Apple Airport Extreme Base Station / Airport Express / WRT54GS / ASUS / etc.

I like the AEBS because it can do so much more than its rivals.

a) Gigabit Switch
b) Print Server
c) NAS
d) Router
e) Wireless Access Point

Other routers out in the market usually only can do A / D and E. The rest are usually add on modules. So for the price, this truly is awesome.

Thanks. Hopefully, the throughput can make it across to all the rooms. Had poor experience with DLink Wireless G before - signal dropping off. Don't really have a choice, as I don't want to drill holes and run wires from room to room.

Lightbulb expanding wireless coverage

I don't know about the other companies, but Linksys has extended antennas that improve the range of their routers, and also plugin wireless "repeaters" that in effect rebroadcast the signal into multiple floors of a house without wiring.

back2hk - pick up a replacement antenna in Wanchai at 298 Hennessey Road (not the Wanchai Computer Center). A good high gain antenna will work much better than upgrading to Pre-N (which might actually kill your neighbours connection).

I recently went with my friend to buy the DLINK Dir-655 Xtreme N after detailed investigation on different routers. The performance and coverage is way above most of the N routers I have ever seen and my friend has been using it for 2 months and he's very happy about it.

Kia, Thx.

Now, you have made it even more appealing to buy pre-N. !!

On a more serious note, I understand that pre-N uses 5Ghz, should that impact the 2.4Ghz networks? Microwaves and cordless phones do more to kill wireless networks.

I will check out the place in Wanchai..
