Question quitting job - Visa question

I am about to leave my job without notice; I do not wish to be in that environment anymore.

How will this effect my future work visa(s) here in HK? Should I send a letter to the Immigration Dept. explaining my decision?

thanks in advance.

Your Employment Visa is only valid for the employer who sponsored it, and they should inform ImmD within 14 days that you are no longer employed by them. In principle I believe you have 14 days to leave HK and you may then re-enter under visitor terms (or you may get a change of condition of stay at ImmD offices). However, as a concession, in practice ImmD allows people who have left jobs to remain in HK within the validity of their Employment Visa in order to search for new work. BUT you may not start at any new employment until ImmD has approved your application for Transfer of Sponsorship of your Employment Visa - the process for this is very similar to the original application, although they may not require to see copies of education qualifications etc a second time.
