WOW, that took some balls crocodile, naming an Australian of the year recipiant, of having no credibility?

Especially one famed for having the best selling album of any Australian artist in Australian music history, 1986's Whispering Jack CD.

An album that went 24 X Platinum, winning the ARIA for best CD for 1987, and had song writers from Manfred Mann and Mondo Rock ( Ross Wilson ) contribute songs for that CD.

Lets also not forget that in 1987 John won the Australian of the year award, ( http://www.australianoftheyear.gov.au/pages/page78.asp ) in the Australia day honours list, for his contribution to Australian music, and as a patron of various charity organisations. Listed below

I thought this thread was about music, and music that makes you reminds you of home.

How about Wide Open Road by the Triffids, or perhaps you haven't heard of them as you were probably busy listening to Johny Farnham.

Oh dear everyone, let's not get too personal!

Not a big fan of Johnny F either, but I think "You're the Voice" is an great classic.

Getting slightly off topic, there are a few bands like that for me. Eg I may be inclined to become a bit of a musical snob with the mention of "Bon Jovi" but then again I will heartily sing along to "Living on a Prayer"

nah, didn't think much of Mr Farnham, he's a Media Personality that happens to be able to sing. I suppose that makes him better than most of the others though. Just my opinion which you are free to ignore.

back to the music...

Hunters and Collectors were great, both before and after Mark Seymour learned how to sing.
Spiderbait are still cool, they may have been even cooler before Janet learned to play the bass.
Regurgitator were way cool but have gone pretty quite, maybe coz Quan is busy playing with Janet.
getting a bit more local, in particular Melbourne, who could go past TISM, or a night on the turps with The Meanies or The Cosmic Psychos.

moving away a bit from Aussie music, anyone interested in the 80's indie music scene might get a buzz out of this blog...

Wolfmother
the Grates
Evermore
Eskimo Joe
Sleepy Jackson
the Presets

- but it's yet to be seen whether I'll still be listening to them in a few years' time..

Here's one that makes me a little nostalgic
