No Shopping Bags Alert

Just shopped at Watsons, and was told the store is not giving out bags anymore. I asked if just to day, but clerk said no more bags ever. Is this real?

Several other stores also did not offer bags for purchased items: Circle-K said no bags.

Is this trend or just a fad?

Any comments?

If they follow PnS's lead in their very brief no-free-bag campaign, they'll fold after a few complaints from the ignorant masses and bring back the bags in short order... really a shame

What? Ignorant masses?

Am I expected to carry a shopping bag every single day? Many people just randomly go into shops and need stuff .. lots of stuff ... (I often get a random call from the boss .. "can you pick up these things on the way home")

Just get the folks to pay a few cents and be done with .. .

Nonsense like no shopping bags AND no exceptions is just stupid.

Let's hope not...

I live in Shenzhen with a nice view of HK's magnificent landfill site, not much room left now!

That WAS PnS's policy..a few cents (was it 20? not sure...) but even THAT was too much for the whiners to pay...hence the rapid retreat back to the status quo

Of course we all have days when we don't bring the cloth bags with us...but like you, I was happy to pay...to bad more people (yes, THOSE ignorant masses) weren't

Just should just start giving a 20 cent discount on a mandatory "service charge".

It is rather weird that simple stuff like this is not so well co-ordinated between the various oligopolies ... (may be because such directives do not originate from the tai pans and are hare brained schemes of the underlings...)

Charging 20 cents, you might as well charge nothing.
If you want to get rid of the plastic bags, the charge has to bite. Especially in this city where money seems to be everything.
And you would carry a shopping bag everywhere if the charge on the plastic was high enough. Although maybe not if you were just going to expense the whole thing.

I agree, but the company doing the charging (or denying of bags) has to have the balls to stick to their policy in the face of the ensuing sh*t-storm...let's hope Watson's does...I won't be holding my breath
